CONVENTION CENTER DIRECTOR TO ADDRESS COVINGTON BUSINESS LEADERS
Covington, KY/October 17, 2006—When the Northern Kentucky Convention Center was completed in 1998, officials estimated it would lose well over half a million dollars in its first five years. In actuality, the Center has made money and has outpaced projected total economic impact by 41 percent at more than $632 million.
For the first time since its existence the Center has a new Executive Director. Gretchen Landrum, formerly the Center’s Director of Sales and Marketing, is one of only a handful of women running a convention center in the U.S.
Landrum will speak at the Covington Business Council monthly luncheon, to be held Thursday, October 26th at noon at The Madison, 700 Madison Avenue. Her topic is Promises Made, Promises Kept in recounting how the Center has fulfilled the expectations outlined to the community since its opening.
In her address, attendees will:
Learn strategies for how local businesses can best benefit from the economic impact generated from the Center’s use;
Gain an understanding of how the Center and the Duke Energy Center in Cincinnati complement one another;
Grasp the need for eventually expanding the Center based upon space constraints;
Understand how they as community leaders can help boost the local economy by bringing statewide, regional or national industry conventions to Northern Kentucky.
RSVP by email: gbreyfogle@cbcky.com or by calling the CBC office at (859) 431-1500.
The mission of the Northern Kentucky Convention and Visitors Bureau is that of an aggressive sales, marketing, service and informational organization whose primary responsibility is to positively impact the Northern Kentucky economy through conventions, meetings and visitor expenditures. The direct economic impact of visitors’ spending in Campbell, Kenton and Boone Counties in 2005 was $255 million.
