Convention
Center Expansion
Because of the down economy, tourism leaders
in Northern Kentucky say now is the perfect time to expand the Northern Kentucky
Convention Center in Covington, KY, near Cincinnati.
According to The Kentucky
Enquirer, officials plan to ask Kentucky's state legislature to
include the expansion - one proposal currently under consideration calling for a
second ballroom and 22 new meeting rooms in the 111,000-sq.-ft. facility, for an
estimated cost of $51 million - in a two-year budget it will draft during its next
session, beginning in January.
"Ideally, it would be great to build it over the next
two years, while the economy's bouncing back," Northern Kentucky Convention
and Visitors Bureau president Tom Caradonio said. "This is the best time
to expand, because as the economy comes back up, we can recapture that business."
The state of Kentucky built the convention center in 1998
at a cost of $31.5 million. Since then, official estimate, it has had a $914 million
economic impact on the region.

10 Easy
Ways to Retain Customers
By Margaret Plowdrey (Part 2
of 2)
In uncertain economic times like these, a business can flourish or die quickly by
the way they treat their customers. As numerous studies show, it can cost up to
10 times more to land a new customer than to keep an existing one. Very few dissatisfied
customers complain, the rest just move on to your competitor.
Following are 5 ways to help you retain your customers:
6. Create a newsletter that allows you to stay in touch with your customers. Include
new industry products, services and ideas. This is another way to keep your business
name in front of them and contact info readily accessible.
7. Ask for referrals and give referrals. When touching base with your clients, ask
them if they know of any other businesses that made need your service or product.
Establish a referral incentive program to thank them for any referrals that turn
into new customers for you. Also make sure to refer their businesses - as they say,
"what goes around, comes around".
8. Deliver the unexpected. When you offer more than you promise, then you create
stronger loyalty with your customer base. Always under promise and over deliver.
It's a nice touch to include a small gift with your customers order.
9. Keep an open door policy for both your staff and your customers. In this day
and age of 24/7 accessibility, it is crucial to show that you are available at all
times for your staff and client needs.
10. Look at your customers as the key to your businesses success. Treat each customer
as if they are a long-term customer. For those that are, go the extra mile for them
as it will pay off numerous times over.
